“Therapy is often mistakenly viewed as an endeavor required of people who are experiencing some sort of deficit in their lives. This perspective could not be further from the truth. In fact, therapy is an effective way of gaining awareness, processing emotion, and ultimately altering the way in which a person shows up in the world.”
As a therapist, Rick’s work is informed by a humanistic approach that is person centered in nature. He operates from the belief that everyone is doing the best they can at any moment, given their available resources, and he strives to assist his clients in becoming more resourced in order to empower them to live in accordance with their ideal selves.
Rick’s areas of focus include the treatment of addiction, trauma, grief and loss, depression, anxiety for adolescents and adults, and assisting with difficult life transitions. Rick is trained in multiple therapeutic modalities to include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectic behavioral therapy, as well as acceptance and commitment therapy. However he tends to rely heavily on experiential methods such as emotionally focused therapy, psychodrama, and brainspotting to assist clients in having a new experience of themselves, their relationships, and the world around them.
